Hi. My name is Robyn and I am a doodleholic. I doodle. A lot. If there is a pen/pencil/marker/crayon in my hand I will doodle. I can’t remember when I began my addiction. I think my gateway ink began when I was a little girl. I was handed a squiggle shape, drawn on paper, and was told to go away and make a drawing. I think they wanted me to stay away for a lengthy time…but I came back for more squiggles. I soon ventured down dark alleys and began scoring my own squiggles…. ok, far-fetched and dramatic but you get the idea.
Doodles and I are close friends. A doodle is my academic mentor. Doodles helped me retain a boatload of information. I love – L O V E science. I happily doodled through various chemistry and biology lectures. I didn’t doodle in math because…uh…numbers. Guess what I retain to this day? Science. Math… ooo look a squirrel!!!
I doodle for information. Some call them Sketchnotes. I doodle for art. I doodle whilst listening to music, watching movies, sitting in nature (I suppose that’s sketching?)
Anyhoo – I am not alone.
There is a WSJ article with science to back up the useful doodleage (my blog, my word)…and this article from NOVA/PBS
