Getting Lost in Time

I have been hanging onto a stack of these Dresden blocks. I bought them at a vintage goods store. All are made from 1930′s/1940′s fabrics. Originals, not reproductions. Someone lovingly cut and pieced them together…unplugged. I think they were assembled incorrectly because I can’t seem to turn the edges evenly to applique {I think I may need to release part of their seams}. None-the-less they make me daydream.
Who was the woman or man that made the blocks? Was the clothing, that later became quilt material, worn by a farmer’s wife, a beloved child, a husband? Perhaps a more modern family dwelling in an urban area? Was the sewing interrupted by crying babies, cooking for family, heartaches? Why were they never assembled? Why did those related to the quilter not keep them?
See how my mind can go down paths and make up dreamy stories as I go? I did the same thing when I lived in 2 Victorian homes in the SF Bay. My mind’s eye would see women in long dresses walking along the beach or men in their Tweed pulling the horse and buggy up to the wood sided garage… all while I stood at my sink washing dishes.
Am I alone here? Does your mind ~~easily wander~~ go down paths of imagined history?

Not quilting. I got sidetracked. I know. Those that know me are screaming “SHOCKER!” with a sarcastic tone.
I have reasons. My concentration level got gobsmacked. My son…yeah, THAT one…crashed his bike… again…crash number… I don’t remember but at least it did not involve a car. Face planted. Front teeth broken in half. What am I to do? Glue his feet to the ground or duct tape him to his bed? Nah. Of my 9 kids he is the third to break his front teeth. They will get reconstructed and we’ll move on. His days of chomping into a caramel apple or a frozen Snickers® are over. Even when I take a photo of him he can’t stay grounded.

Anyhoo-ba-stank… this is what I sat and did whilst centering myself. It is Kumihimo Braiding So simple and mindless to do. I am using Noro Daria. It is a silky rope type of yarn.

I decided to reorganize my sewing room… wait, I mean my STooooDio… sounds much more sophisticated.
I am not one that can focus on one small area at a time. Nope not me. I have to MAJOR clean and tear everything apart and then ~~get overwhelmed and quit~~ put it all back together.
Here is some before pictures. . . and believe me they are not the worst ones! You’ll notice my machines aren’t here. They are in my bedroom waiting to return. You don’t see the huge box of trash. Or bins of fabric…or…or……..

Hopefully tomorrow I will have accomplished my goal and have some ‘After’ pics.
Oy! I’m so tired and verklempt!

Sidetrack Hexagon Needlecase

I am known to be easily ~~bored, distracted,~~ sidetra….OOooo look at that pretty… yeah, well I love making the hexagons but I needed a break.
I made a needle case with a little pincushion on top. The pincushion part was made by stuffing the smallest hex with some wool roving. Again I apologize for camera phone pictures.
Wasn’t it bad enough that last year someone dropped and killed my Digital SLR and I had to resort to a point-n-shoot? Must be karma for complaining. My lil’ point-n-shoot is now shooting pics of storm damage off in another land with Mr. Coffee. Ack! Look! I’m even sidetracked in my post! All that to say if the pics of the needlecase / pincushion looks like a mini boob to you, it does to me too. I think. Maybe not. I mean, who has hexagonal boobs???
