Twirly enabled skirts are the whole reason for wearing a dress…at least it is for a five year old! I made this for my precious ChicaBean to wear on her first day back to school.

I used Amy Butler Soul Blossoms fabric… “Buttercups” in Honeydew for the bodice and parts of the sash and “Disco Flower” in Tangerine for the skirt. The remainder of the stash is made from my …uh…stash. Ha! I crack me up.

I slightly modified a pattern from the book Girls World.

I love sewing books with patterns…much cheaper than purchasing patterns from the BIG THREE. I highly recommend the book by Jennifer Paganelli of Sis Boom.

Not as in Yo! Ma!… and not Yo-Yo Ma – although he is my favorite cellist… as in Yo! {Oy! backwards}… you really need to either throw out those chairs or make ‘em purty. I have 2 IKEA barrel type chairs that are embarrassing. I decided to give them another chance at life. Just call me the god of chair salvation.

I have draped fabric over one to get an idea of how it looks before I begin the pinning process to make slipcovers. Yes it is a BRIGHT apple green. Okay, it is not as bright and LIME-ish as it looks in the picture. Bad lighting in the room. I love green. Either the chairs will brighten up the house and I will love them again… or I will find them a new home. I am using a twill weight cotton.

Notice the well placed sink...gives the room Uumph!

Why yes, I do keep a bathroom vanity and sink in my livingroom…And THIS is why…

What the?

THAT is a tree root. That tree root {almost 5ft} was in my bathroom plumbing. It broke a sub-slab pipe and was growing in pipes from below the sink drain and starting its journey up the toilet pipe. Plumber Dude found it via a camera he sent down the pipes… imagine a bathroom plumbing colonoscopy if you will. We could see the obstruction on a video screen. To get to it Plumber Dude had to jackhammer up the ceramic tile floor, sub-flooring, and cement all above where the pipes are buried. Gotta love a slab house {I don’t BTW}. Took him hours to get it out. The re-pour of cement is curing. Hopefully tomorrow the Tile Person comes and replaces floor and in a few days the rest of the bathroom is put back together. Ack!

Can you B E L I E V E this??!! It is a pattern I used in high school……a few years back. It was way too big. Today I couldn’t get me arse into it!
I altered it to fit… on my nagymama’s Singer Featherweight. I wore it. Yes, I had the Platform shoes too. I. ROCKED. IT.

Before I get started with this blog post… did ya notice I did it again? Up there ↖ at the top O’ my blog. See it?
I changed my header logo again. Everything was/is looking cluttered to me so I wanted to minimalist it a bit. Onward…

In honor of MY team… the San Francisco Giants… I give you some ORANGE!! At the end of post..Ok so it’s Halloween fabric but still, it’s the right color combo for what matters in October… WHOO HOO!!! GO GIANTS!!

I started teaching my Chica how to use a sewing machine. She is 4 almost 5. Just thread and paper this time with me controlling the foot pedal. She sewed her name too but I blocked it from internet view

I also made her some more snack / sandwich / food bags. The Monkey one is longer because she often has burritos. These are prototypes. I want them to close without Velcro® and be easier for a child to manipulate than the fold over one I previously made.
I am a bit ~~anal retentive~~… ~~OCD~~ overly picky when it comes to stitches { “OMG! Did you seeeeee how crooked and wonky-tensioned that stitching is? Horrors!!” }. I use an eraser way too much and I rip out stitching much too often. But. Monkeys on fabric deserve wonky stitching. Don’tcha think?

Over the weekend I had TWO, 2!! Make-Me-Grin-BIG-And-Call-Me-Cheesy events
First, I found this beauty on Craigslist {I will tell more of Her story another day} I have always wanted a treadle. Mr. Coffee was working in the area of her former home, went and bought her and loaded her up and brought her home… to ME!!… SQUEEEL!!
