Now that the Urban Home Goods Swap {UHGS} is done and my partner, Jamie, received what I made I thought it was time to show and tell. I started with the above sewn together strips. Then chopped them up.

So my Sister the Artist texts me the other night telling me she has made 180 hexies… in less than a week… and is that enough??. Dang! I have infected her and created a monster!!! She has taken off and passed me by. So as not to have Hexie-Envy or feeling like a Hexie-Failure or being Hexed-Vexed I am going to show off the 25 hexies that I will be sent off to my partner in the Handsome Hexies Swap 2

The first week of the Tour de France has finished. 2 more weeks to go!
I am still working on a wheel block. Trying to figure out how to draft it. I needed a break from geometry. So I did some more hexies! I think this fabric reminds me of the French countryside that the Tour cyclists have been riding through. I plan on making it a pillow top. I may change my mind. Notice there are NINE hexies???

I was thinking….how small can one go with hexies? I used the hexagon generator and plugged in my order for 1/2 inch hexagons…with a side of crazy. I’m on a diet so I turned down the fries.


Look like normal size…the kind you could make a whole quilt with? Ha! No way. I am patient but not THAT patient. They are soooo teeny tiny! Fit in a small, NARROW shot glass. Why was there a shot glass near my sewing??? My blog and I don’t have to answer that. I kid, I kid… I got it out of a cupboard. Never use them. I mean, why bother with such a small beverage??!!

What am I making with this? Can’t tell you yet.
I set my shot glass hexies aside and surfed some blogs. Low and behold Texas Freckles had tiny hexies on her site. So I blame her for enabling me once again and cursing me with hexie fever. She has such cute ideas!

I know there are bookoo files available to print your own Hexies. There are online hexagon generators too. They work fine but I wanted a way to make it a wee bit easier when cutting {and cutting…and cutting…and…} out my hexies. Sooooo… I made some 1.5 inch hexagons in Adobe Illustrator, spaced them out into rows and converted it to a PDF. It’s easier for me anyhoo. I can cut them with a paper cutter or scissors or a rotary cutter {old one of course, not one used for fabric}
Here is my PDF. As I said, it is for 1.5 inch hexagons. If you really need another size let me know and I’ll make some up.
I like to lay my printed sheet on top of scrap paper…ya know… all those unused things you printed out…or old files…recycle it! I know you can buy pre-cut hexes but I am trying to resist. Can’t you just see me patting myself on my Green {and soooo humble} shoulder? Now I need to get off my Green arse and get sewing! {eeeww…ya, not a good mental picture. I’m such a dork}
Here is my contribution to help you lower your footprint.

It is so hot. Duh…it is TexAs and summer. I plopped myself in a chair that was in direct shot of a fan. Yes we have AC but it is very inefficient in a 1930′s house that has leaky windows and doors and no insulation.
Whilst plopped I put together some hexies. I was going to make a quilt with random hexes sewn together like this {isn’t it great?!}. Then I decided I wanted a Grandmother’s Flower Garden. I thought of doing one with the green hexes around each flower and then joined with neutral {like Switzerland?} hexes. But being ADD sidetracked lazy the ambitious person that I am, I think I have decided to get scrappy yet flowery. Think it will work??

I am known to be easily bored, distracted, sidetra….OOooo look at that pretty… yeah, well I love making the hexagons but I needed a break.
I made a needle case with a little pincushion on top. The pincushion part was made by stuffing the smallest hex with some wool roving. Again I apologize for camera phone pictures.
Wasn’t it bad enough that last year someone dropped and killed my Digital SLR and I had to resort to a point-n-shoot? Must be karma for complaining. My lil’ point-n-shoot is now shooting pics of storm damage off in another land with Mr. Coffee. Ack! Look! I’m even sidetracked in my post! All that to say if the pics of the needlecase / pincushion looks like a mini boob to you, it does to me too. I think. Maybe not. I mean, who has hexagonal boobs???
