Saddle up! Not sure if there are other quilters / sewists out there who are as enthused as I about the 97th Tour de France. Anyone else have a Greg LeMond poster??

Or did you watch Breaking Away…

the movie or TV show?? Ride on Townies!
Yeah, I’ve been a bicycle junkie for a long time.
Today is the 8KM Prologue in Rotterdam – it begins @ 11:00AM Central Time. Lance has announced this is his last Tour and he will retire… again. How many times has he said that?
Here are some resources for your Tour following pleasure…
- The Wiki info explaining the 2010 Tour
- The Official Le Tour de France page
- The List of Teams
- Aside from some (US) television coverage on ESPN, VERSUS channel is covering it well
- The Map of the Tour

If your in Austin check out Bicycle Sport Shop {my sons work there and there is usually a big screen going with the Tour on}
Now clip into your pedals and get working on your Quilt Le Tour! Get some yellow in there if you can! {Yellow Jersey} Represent!
What style are you? Road Racer? A Hipster with a Fixie? BMXer? Mountain Biker?
So many cycle-y ideas out there. I am drooling over Denyse Schmidt’s “Cog + Wheel” pattern

On Monday I will announce what the first giveaway will be and draw at the week’s end. Sign up at the Flickr group to join in the Quilt Le Tour Challenge. I have a few wonderful prize contributors on board. So excited to tell you! But… Not yet. Muwha ha ha. If you are in the Flickr group and have some favorite bicycle related pics feel free to add them to the group.
Can anyone tell me what piece of cycling equipment is also used by quilters????
Cheers!

Because you will never find a bike race or alley cat ride without beer

I am a quilter/TourdeFrance lover! I have been waiting all year for this years race. It should be very interesting this year!
i am a quilter and a tour watcher as well! my husband and son are both riders and we go on lock down for the month of july. if you watch versus you can get good coverage and hd. anyway, here’s to lance
OH yeah!!! I am so totally there for the Tour. Also a quilting fiend. I won’t get to watch the end of the tour though as I am leaving on July 14 for my own adventure on a bike. 2000 KM up the west coast of Canada. Can’t wait.
Oh that sounds like a beautiful ride! I am a NW Coast girl.
the only thing that I can think of that is shared by cyclists and quilters is gloves?????
Nope. Not gloves… well I guess they do, but that is not what I was thinking.
I’m having fun making an Irish chain quilt. My hubby and I love bicycling, as well! He has been into biking a lot longer than I have, and he suggests that a chain cutter is one thing both bicyclists and quilters use.
The item I am thinking of is an actual piece of equipment made for cycling but used by quilters. Good guess!
I look forward to watching the Tour every year. I love it. I’ve been cheering Cadell Evans and the other Aussies for a few years now. Did you see the spill at the end of the first day? Poor buggas. I look forward to not only watching the race, but the scenery and the architecture, too.
I know!! I love watching the landscape and farms and buildings. Living in a “young” nation my imagination gets lost in seeing ancient architecture!
oh my goodness – what a spill and today’s stage doesn’t look good with those cobblestones. I love VERSUS coverage – the aerial shots are gorgeous. Makes me happy cause I’ll be cycling in Netherlands in September for three weeks and seeing this – I can’t wait!!!!!
OK – here goes another guess with the cycling/quilting tool – something to do with tension???? Like a tensioner??? That’s all I can think of.
