::friendly warning. I am going to get opinionated::
Gobsmacked seems to be my frequently used word as of late. Throw in a few expletives and you’ll get the gist of my frustration. I am…yes, GOBSMACKED by the hatred spewing from the mouths of wanna-be leaders. Wait, no, I am more gobsmacked by their myopic followers. Followers that are uninformed, unoriginal, full of band-wagon-based ignorance fueled by fear. Fear that leads to judgement, hatred and lack of compassion for others. We need a burp-er. We need to become burp-ers. Ya, I hear you saying “what the hell is she blathering about?”
Mack. Mack burped. Still no clue?
Yertle the Turtle. That wonderful book written by Dr. Seuss in 1958.
Yertle was a leader. A dictator. Hitler to be precise. And though we do not have a Hitler-type leading the United States (yet), I think we are swimming in some dangerous waters. Bloviating and dominating voices are being dredged from the bottom of the pond. Telling us whom to allow into our swimming hole. Telling ‘them’ ‘they’ are all murderers and rapers. Labels. Perhaps they should be marked? Forced to sew a crescent or a star or a cross on their garments? Detainment?
It. Is. Time. To. Burp.
“That plain little turtle below in the stack,
That plain little turtle whose name was just Mack,
Decided he’d taken enough. And he had
And that plain little lad got a little bit mad
And that plain little Mack did a plain little thing
He burped! And his burp shook the throne of the king!
Burp! Before *racism becomes even more rampent. Before **prejudice reigns. Before we become ***Facists. Ya, I said it.
Soooo… BURP! And don’t excuse me.
*Racism- a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
**Prejudice – preconceived judgment or opinion formed without just grounds or before sufficient knowledge resulting in an irrational attitude of hostility directed against an individual, a group, a race, or their supposed characteristics.
***Fascism is a political philosophy, movement, or regime that places nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition.
